Almost as much of a tradition as a hearty Christmas dinner, a Boxing Day walk is a great way to shake off the cobwebs.
Of course the UK can’t be relied upon to have good weather, but whether it’s rain or shine, there’s plenty of incredible places to explore on Boxing Day.
The Fitflop team have selected the UK’s most popular walks from all over the country but Brits might need to pack their wellies for some of these routes.
So where are the UK’s best Boxing Day walks?
North East- Cragside, Northumberland
A 1,000 acre estate, Cragside is a winter walk favourite with miles of dog-friendly footpaths to explore. The house is closed until spring but there are four walking routes to choose from.
North West – Dunham Massey, Cheshire
Dunham Massey has one of the UK’s best collections of veteran trees as well as 150 resident deer and rare insect species. Keep an eye out for the 500 year old oak tree by Stallion Pound.
South East- Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire
Waddesdon Manor is closed on Boxing Day but walkers can still access parts of the wider estate. Look out for statues.
South West – Cheddar Gorge Trail, Somerset
Cheddar Gorge is England’s largest gorge and formed around one million years ago. Some of the trails are a little challenging so make sure to do some research before setting off.
North East- Belton House & Park, Lincolnshire
Belton House recently featured in Netflix’s popular ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’. The Belton Park circular walk takes in a deer park, woodland, a medieval village and plenty of wildlife.
East Midlands – Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire
The 2,500 acre estate has incredible views of rolling hills and Grade I listed parkland with winding walks through ancient trees.
South West – Stourhead, Wiltshire
Surrounded by over 2,500 acres of countryside, Stourhead features ancient woods, farmland and chalk downs. Bird watchers will love this wildlife friendly spot.
North West – Tatton Park, Cheshire
Tatton Park has a variety of walks to choose from. The child-friendly 2.5 mile walk around Tatton Mere is great for spotting swans and ducks while there’s also a longer 5.5 mile route around Parkland.
