DONALD Trump’s former lawyer has been ordered to pay £116million ($148 million) for defaming election workers.
Rudy Giuliani had falsely accused Georgia ballot counters Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss of rigging the 2020 presidential election.
After a four-day trial in Washington DC, a jury ordered the one-time New York mayor, 79, to pay the mammoth sum to the mother and daughter for reputational and emotional harm.
Following the controversial election, Giuliani tweeted edited footage appearing to show the pair wheeling suitcases of ballots from under a table.
The accusations were quickly debunked by Georgia officials – despite Giuliani continuing to push them.
In her testimony on Wednesday, Freeman said she had been “terrorized” after receiving a slew of death threats.
She said: “I don’t have a name any more – sometimes I don’t know who I am.”
Giuliani ran the Big Apple for two terms before he worked as Trump’s lawyer.
Brooklyn-born attorney Rudy Giuliani, 78, was elected mayor of New York City in 1993, staying in office for two terms.
Following his mayor stint, Giuliani faced a plethora of ups and downs including cancer, a failed presidential bid, and cheating scandals.
