At least six people died after a bus caught fire on a highway in southern China on Wednesday morning.
Authorities in Huaiji county in Guangdong province said the blaze occurred in Qiashui, a township administered by the city of Zhaoqing.
“At 9.40am on February 12, a bus caught fire on County Road 813 in Qiashui township, Huaiji county, killing six people and injuring some passengers,” the county government said.
“The injured have been sent to hospital for treatment but are not in a life-threatening condition.”
The incident was under investigation, it said.
China has had a number of fatal bus fires over the past few years. In 2019, 26 people died and 28 were injured when a blaze erupted on a bus in the central province of Hunan. Authorities said the fire was caused by flammable materials brought on the vehicle by a passenger killed in the incident.
