A BJP leader allegedly warned voters that their houses would be demolished if they did not vote for his party in upcoming ward elections. A video purportedly showing BJP District President Satish Patel campaigning in Vadodara has gone viral.
In the video, he can be heard saying that if the party’s panel of four candidates does not win in the area, then houses will be broken. The area where Satish Patel issued this warning is a minority-dominated area.
According to The Indian Express report, Satish Patel made this comment on Sunday while campaigning in Ward 7 alongside Karjan Nagar Palika election in-charge and BJP Vadodara city unit president, Vijay Shah.
In the upcoming election, the BJP faces a challenge from veteran leader Mohammad Yusuf Sindhi, who is running as a rebel candidate for the Aam Aadmi Party. The BJP has also included Muslim candidate Mumtaz Hussain Multani in its four-candidate panel.
While addressing voters, Patel allegedly issued a warning from the stage, “If you ensure the victory of the BJP’s panel of four candidates, I assure you that not a single house will be demolished. But if you betray us and the BJP does not win, I also guarantee you that I will not let a single house remain here…”
Patel can also be heard claiming that Sindhi has been extorting money from many residents of the area.
Vijay Shah was also seen vocally supporting Satish Patel. Shah allegedly agreed with Patel’s statement and was observed encouraging residents to vote to transform ‘Mohammadnagari’ into ‘Ram Nagari’ by expelling ‘Ravan’.
Local body elections in Karjan Nagar Palika are scheduled for February 16 and the BJP faces a challenging contest with 16 rebel leaders contesting under the AAP banner. These former BJP members, including Sindhi, were suspended from the party after filing nominations for the AAP.
The BJP has fielded Jyoti Vasava, Tarun Parmar, and Pranavrajsinh Atalia, along with Multani, in Ward 7. Their opponents from the AAP include Priyanka Machhi, Bharat Atalia, Vinita Vasava, and Sindhi.
