We are talking about an actress who struggled while looking for her first break. She even left her studies to pursue her dream of acting. Can you guess who it is?
We are talking about Adah Sharma who was born in Mumbai to SL Sharma, a captain in the Indian Merchant Navy. Her mother Sheila Sharma is a classical dancer. Well, after completing her Class 12, she decided to quit her studies as she was interested in acting. Adah earned a degree in Kathak from the Natraj Gopi Krishna Kathak Dance Academy in Mumbai and took training in salsa, jazz, and ballet, in the United States. Adah made her debut in Bollywood and faced massive rejections due to her looks. In an interview, she said, “Yes, during the initial phase of my career, I was told that ‘you don’t look good,’ and I took it to heart. Gradually, I realized that if they want to reject me, they will do so regardless of how I look. But if I am fit for a role and have a flaw, they will still take me for a project.”
Adah made her debut in 2008 with the horror film 1920, directed by Vikram Bhatt. She earned a lot of praise for her performance and became a household name. She was part of films like Hasee Toh Phasee, S/O Satyamurthy, Kshanam, and Commando 3. She played a lead role in The Kerala Story which is directed by Sudipto Sen and became the the highest-grossing female-led movie in India. The film managed to earn a net total of Rs 242 crore at the domestic box office. Adah’s film beats Kangana Ranaut’s Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi.
