Milkipur, Erode (East) Bypoll Election ECI Results Live Updates: Along with Delhi elections, voting was also held in Uttar Pradesh’s Milkipur and Tamil Nadu’s Erode (east) assembly constituencies on February 5. The counting of votes for these two seats is underway too (February 8). While the Erode seat fell vacant after the death of incumbent MLA EVKS Elangovan of the Congress, Milkipur bypoll was necessitated as Samajwadi Party MLA Awadhesh Prasad was elected to Lok Sabha from Faizabad (Ayodhya) constituency.
The Milkipur bypoll has turned into a prestige battle between the SP and the BJP as the seat is part of the politically significant Ayodhya district. Even as 10 candidates are in the race, the real battle is between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP). The key contenders are BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan and SP’s Ajit Prasad.
The polls in Erode are likely to be a cake walk for the DMK with its nominee V C Chandrakumar, a turncoat from late actor Vijayakanth’s DMDK, taking on Naam Tamizhar Katchi’s M K Seethalakshmi, a less formidable opponent. According to a report in Deccan Herald, by-polls in Tamil Nadu have always tilted in favour of the ruling party, be it the DMK or the AIADMK, since the 1990s, with wide-spread allegations of bribing the voters.
