Tribal BJP MPs file complaint against Sonia Gandhi with RS Chairperson over comments on Murmu

A delegation of BJP tribal MPs met presiding officer of the Rajya Sabha and submitted a notice for breach of privilege against Congress Parliamentary Party leader Sonia Gandhi for her alleged remarks on President Droupadi Murmu.

A similar complaint was filed with the Lok Sabha Speaker against Purnia MP Pappu Yadav.

After President Murmu addressed a joint sitting of Parliament to mark the beginning of the Budget Session, Sonia Gandhi was heard saying that the President “was getting very tired by the end. She could hardly speak, poor thing….”

In a letter addressed to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, the MPs stated, “Such remarks not only undermine the dignity of the office but also violate the sanctity of parliamentary procedures and conventions. This is a clear manifestation of the elitist and anti-tribal mindset of Sonia Gandhi who is yet to understand the struggle and the sensitivity of a tribal poor”.

In a letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the MPs said, “These anti-women and anti-tribal and derogatory comments portray the President as a mere puppet, lacking autonomy and dignity, which is totally baseless and unjustified.”

Yadav had called President Murmu “a stamp…She just has to read a love letter”.
