SABC has announced that it has acquired the license to broadcast the Grammys on Monday, 3 February. This comes shortly after it was revealed that South African comedian Trevor Noah will host the music awards show for the fifth consecutive year.
SABC TO BROADCAST THE GRAMMYS
In a tweet on Saturday, 1 February, the SABC tweeted: “S3 HOSTS THE 67TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS.
“S3 is pleased to announce that the channel has acquired the license to broadcast the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on Monday, 3 February 2025, from 19:00 until 22:30.”
WHAT’S THE CATCH?
What the SABC omitted from its announcement was that their broadcast of the Grammys would NOT be live.
The awards show takes place on Sunday, 2 December, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. With the time difference between South Africa and the US, the awards would likely begin in the early hours of Monday morning.
This means that SABC’s broadcast would air more than 12 hours after the show had happened and the winners’ names had been made public.
TREVOR NOAH GEARS UP ‘ROUND 5’
Meanwhile, SA’s Trevor Noah is gearing up to host his fifth consecutive Grammys.
The Soweto-born star tweeted a clip of a behind-the-scenes prep of himself, sharing: “Round 5. Here we go”.
The South African comedian first hosted music’s biggest night in 2021, amid the COVID–19 pandemic. The gig was a massive success, and Trevor has been invited back to host the show ever since.
The 40-year-old makes history as the first African and now comedian to host the show on multiple occasions. For the first time, Trevor will also serve as a producer of the show.
