Asda issues alert to everyone aged 60 or over

Supermarket giant Asda has this week issued an alert to everyone aged 60 and over.

The retailer has urged anyone who is older to come to one of its 205 stores to take advantage of a cheap food deal.

Asda’s Winter Warmers programme sees older people offered the chance to get soup and a roll with unlimited tea or coffee for just £1.

The offer, introduced to help pensioners deal with rising living costs, is only on until the end of February.

Asda said in an alert issued on Facebook: “Calling everyone aged 60 and over. Head to your local Asda café and choose from tomato, chicken or vegetable soup and a bread roll for just £1. Also comes with unlimited tea and coffee.”

Asda then released a clip of a woman who takes advantage of the offer. She said: “Come with me to Asda for the over-60s winter warmer.

“You get a soup a roll and as much tea or coffee as you like for just £1. There’s three soups to choose from and I’ve gone for the chicken today.

“Nice and thick and hot – that was tasty. I’ll be back again soon.”

Asda said its Community and Customer Champions are also inviting and encouraging many local over 60’s group and individuals to come along to their store Chatty Café to use the £1 Winter Warmer meal as an opportunity to come and chat to others.

The offer is available all day, every day and will run alongside the Kids eat for £1’ offer, with more than 4.9 million meals served since its launch in June 2022, and over 1.8 million in the last year alone. Grandparents can bring along their grandchildren and all eat in Asda Café’s for as little as £4 (2 adults, 2 children).

Ian McEvans, Asda’s Commercial Vice President Fresh and Frozen, said: “We know winter is set to be incredibly hard for thousands of pensioners as they continue to worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and on a fixed income.

“Since its launch 1.2 million meals have been sold showing the vital need for this initiative. By bringing Winter Warmers back for 2024 and extending it until February we hope it will prove just as impactful across the winter months for those who need it most.”
