Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan made his debut with ‘Maharaj‘ which had released on OTT. The film directed by Sidharth P Malhotra saw him in a role which was quite offbeat for a star-kid debut. However now, Junaid is gearing up for his first theatrical release. It sees him alongside Khushi Kapoor. The film titled ‘Loveyapa‘ is a remake of the Tamil romantic comedy Love Today, which starred Pradeep Ranganthan and Ivana in the leading roles.
In an exclusive chat with ETimes, Junaid opened up on the film, his idea of love and more. Talking about his reaction when ‘Loveyapa’ came to him, Junaid said, “Madhu (Mantena) sir had come to me and said he has the remake rights of this film. The hook of the father that he wants to exchange phones, I loved it. I was a little surprised that they wanted me in the film because I thought the part was very different from me personality wise but I was really excited about it.”
Junaid largely credits his director for his performance in the film. It’s directed by Advait Chandan whose last film was ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. “Advait always gets fantastic performances from his actors in all his films. Even if an actor just has 1-2 scenes in the film, he gets good performances from his actors. So, he really helped to get the ‘sur’ of the film right,” said Junaid.
Junaid was accompanied by Khushi during this chat and when asked the duo if it’s too early to ask them if they’ve found their method, he said, “I love rehearsals. I love doing lots of rehearsals.” Khushi added, “I also love rehearsals but only up to a certain point. Not to a level wherein you lose your spontaneity.”
Junaid further added, “But every director has their own process and I like to take my cues from the director. Different directors like to work in different ways but I think that also helps you build the repertoire of things you can try and do.”
Talking about his idea of love especially in a time where Gen Z uses terms like situationship and red flags, Junaid said, “I’m very old school. Love is a primal emotion and a human emotion. It transcends generations, time, culture. Now terminology is changing, terms are changing but the emotions are same.”
