Students need to study for hours and cover a vast syllabus to clear the first phase of the UPSC exam. The second phase is even tougher and is followed by the interview round. However, those who clear all the stages and become IAS or IPS officers with an impressive All India Rank become role models for other aspirants. One such person is IAS Shweta Agarwal, who faced numerous challenges in her life and fulfilled her dream of becoming a civil servant, defying all odds. Who is Shweta Agarwal?

Shweta hails from West Bengal’s Hooghly and comes from a humble background. She is the daughter of a grocery shopkeeper and faced several challenges in her early life. Shweta’s father worked tirelessly to earn bread and butter for his family. Shweta faced significant challenges on her path to success. Her arrival was initially met with disappointment by her family, who had anticipated a boy. Nevertheless, Shweta overcame these expectations and ultimately became the first in her family to obtain an academic degree, instilling great pride in her relatives.

IAS Shweta Agarwal Education Qualification

Agarwal started her studies at Joseph’s Convent Bandel School. She then moved to St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata and earned a degree in Economics. After completing graduation,. She started preparation for the UPSC exam.

Chasing The Dream

She first attempted the exam in 2013 and secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 497. On the very first attempt, she secured a post in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). However, Shweta had dreamt of becoming an IAS officer, so she decided to appear in one of India’s toughest competitive exams.

In the second attempt, she again got success and improved her rank to AIR 141, but still could not secure an IAS post.

Shweta didn’t lose hope and tried for the third time, achieving an impressive AIR 19 in the UPSC CSE 2016.

Shweta Agarwal’s narrative exemplifies the strength of resolve, persistence, and diligence. Her experiences have motivated many individuals to pursue their aspirations, no matter the obstacles they encounter on their path.
