Former FBI agent and author Fred Boff will discuss his new book, “King Rex and the Cowboy Mafia,” at the Fanwood Memorial Library on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. The book provides a firsthand account of the investigation into one of the largest drug smuggling operations in U.S. history.
The operation, which spanned multiple states, used a complex network to distribute illegal substances. Boff’s book takes readers inside the efforts of law enforcement agents from local authorities to federal agencies like the FBI and DEA as they worked to infiltrate and dismantle the operation, ultimately bringing the key players to justice.
Boff’s career began in education as an English teacher and coach before his lifelong ambition to work in law enforcement led him to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) during its early years. He later transitioned to a career as a private investigator. This unique perspective as a law enforcement professional, private investigator, and writer allows Boff to provide an authentic look into the world of organized crime and the efforts to combat it.
The event is free to attend, but space is limited. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance through the Fanwood Library website or by calling the library at 908-322-6400. The Fanwood Memorial Library is located at 5 Forest Road. Following the talk, there will be a book signing where attendees can meet the author in person and purchase copies of “King Rex and the Cowboy Mafia.”
