All of these events run until September 1.
Until September 8, there is also a free sculpture park at Victoria Park, in Causeway Bay. And sculpture installed on the Fringe Club’s roof can be seen from the street below.
2. Sardine Festival
The festival features Portuguese foods such as grilled sardines on toast, bifana (marinated pork slice sandwiches), chourico (pork and paprika sausages) piri piri chicken and, of course, pastel de nata (custard tarts).
The event also features live music and wine tasting, and souvenirs. Tickets cost HK$80 (US$10) per person and are available from sardine-festival.com
AIA Vitality Park, 33 Man Kwong Street, Central
3. Old But Gold Thrift Retro Market
Thrifties take note: Old But Gold is hosting its biggest pop-up yet from August 30 to September 1 (1pm-9pm) at Heath mall in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The Thrift Retro Market features vintage clothing and accessories, and tunes from musical duo Rosemances.
Check out the handmade embroidery jewellery from My Song Design, a vendor specialising in pieces that blend artistry with craftsmanship.
We also love the looks from look7er_hk, a brand specialising in Hong Kong-themed handmade earrings such as the green tile pieces above.

4. Longlegs
One of the most talked-about movies of 2024, this horror thriller written and directed by Osgood Perkins – son of Anthony Perkins (who played Norman Bates in Psycho) – offers a genuinely creepy ride as a young FBI agent (Maika Monroe, It Follows) with unusual instincts strives to solve a series of occult clues to end a killing spree.
The film’s screenwriting does not match Cage’s memorable performance, but for horror fans looking for an atmospheric, well-paced chiller, Longlegs should do the job.
5. A Paws for Love day
Take your dog to the Wan Chai branch of plant-based bubble tea shop Mother Pearl from 4pm to 6pm on August 31 to take part in fun activities and to enjoy some treats.
Mother Pearl has partnered with child development centre Rise Wise Foundation to raise funds for its therapy dogs and learning programmes.
