The Samsung Galaxy M55 5G was launched in India a few days ago as a new mid-range offering priced at Rs 26,999. The handset features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, a 5,000mAh battery, Android 14 OS, and an sAMOLED Plus display, among other things. We recently reviewed the phone and found it to be quite impressive for its price. In this article, we tell you why you should consider buying the Samsung Galaxy M55 5G and why you should skip it.
4 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy M55 5G
Impressive display
The Samsung Galaxy M55 sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus Infinity-O Display with 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1000 nits peak brightness. The Super AMOLED panels on Samsung phones are known for their impressive colours. They are quite punchy and vibrant, which perfectly suits gaming and media consumption requirements.
The brightness levels, while not the greatest in the segment, are decent and we were able to see the content on the screen in moderate sunlight. The better sunlight-reflecting nature of the Super AMOLED panel aids in this. The 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling through the UI butter smooth. There is also Widevine L1 certification, which allows for FHD streaming on OTT platforms.
Good battery life
The Samsung Galaxy M55 5G packs a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging support. The battery life of the phone is quite decent and was able to score 12 hours and 58 minutes on the PC Mark battery test. This suggests the phone can last one full day with moderate usage. We didn’t notice any abnormal battery drain during idle conditions.
Samsung is not bundling a charger in the box, so users will have to purchase it separately. The phone takes one complete hour to charge fully from 0-100 percent, which is fair enough.

Decent cameras
The Samsung Galaxy M55 5G features a 50MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2MP macro camera. There is a 50MP shooter on the front for selfies and video chats. The colour accuracy of the primary camera is ideal and the images are pleasing to the eyes. Thanks to OIS, there’s very minimal noise in the images but requires a lot of patience.
The ultra-wide-angle lens also does a good job in well-lit conditions and a wide field of view. However, the colours don’t look as vibrant as images from the main sensor. Lastly, the 2MP macro shooter will come in handy, especially during close-up shots. The 50MP front camera is decent with selfies. Although there is a slightly warm tone, the images remain true to reality and are quite appealing.
Elegant design
The Samsung Galaxy M55’s design is quite simple yet elegant. Instead of the usual boxy panel, which we are used to seeing a lot these days, the phone has a simple curved finish to the edges, both on the front and back. This brings sleekness to the overall aesthetics and also for good grip on hands. The phone sports a matte finish atop the plastic later on the back. The phone is equipped with three camera cutouts, aligned vertically. There is no camera island.
The Samsung Galaxy M55 weighs around 180 grams, which makes it quite comfortable to hold for prolonged usage. There is an in-display fingerprint sensor for security. The phone can be purchased in Denim Black and Light Green colours.
2 reasons to skip Samsung Galaxy M55 5G
Performance could have been better
The Samsung Galaxy M55 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC paired with Adreno GPU. In comparison, the OnePlus Nord CE4 comes with a more powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC paired with Adreno GPU. This translates into the benchmarks as well. The Galaxy M55 has scored 5,84,312 on AnTuTu and 1,020 and 2,529 on the Geekbench single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. In comparison, the Nord CE4 has scored close to 8 lakh on AnTuTu.

However, the real-world performance is good enough for day-to-day tasks. We haven’t noticed any major stutters in the UI or lags. But then, during intense tasks or high-end gaming, the phone starts slowing down. We also noticed the handset getting slightly warm during gaming but it is not something uncomfortably warm. Overall, the performance is not quite satisfactory compared to the competition.
No charger in the box
Samsung Galaxy M55 has support for 45W fast charging but the adapter is not bundled in the box. Customers buying the phone will have to shell out Rs 3,499 for the 45W adapter from the Samsung website. This increases the overall cost of the phone. This is a big drawback for those buying the phone.
