Among the most eagerly anticipated projects is the Ambala-Delhi Highway, which will drastically reduce the travel time between Chandigarh and Delhi.
In a significant development set to reshape travel and economic prospects for residents of Haryana and Punjab, the Centre has approved the construction of three major highways under the Bharatmala project. These new roads, which will link key towns and cities in the region, promise to significantly ease traffic congestion and shorten travel times. They include the Panipat-Dabwali Highway, the Hisar-Rewari Highway, and the Ambala-Delhi Highway. Once completed, these highways are expected to enhance connectivity, boost regional economies, and increase the value of land in the adjoining areas.
Among the most eagerly anticipated projects is the Ambala-Delhi Highway, which will drastically reduce the travel time between Chandigarh and Delhi. Currently, the journey between these two cities can take up to 5 hours, but with the new highway in place, the travel time is expected to drop by 2 to 2.5 hours. This new route will pass along the banks of River Yamuna, offering a smoother and more efficient alternative to the heavily trafficked GT Road.
By alleviating congestion on the existing routes, this highway will not only benefit travelers between Delhi, Chandigarh, and Ambala, but will also improve connectivity with neighboring states, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. With the improved traffic flow, these areas will become more accessible for business and tourism, providing a significant economic boost.
The Bharatmala project will also introduce Greenfield Expressway connecting New Delhi to Ambala. This expressway will extend through Panchkula to Yamunanagar, offering seamless access to Haryana’s industrial hubs. Additionally, a new greenfield expressway will link Panipat to Chautala village, providing a direct route connecting Bikaner to Meerut. The establishment of these expressways will strengthen national integration, making trade and commerce between northern states more efficient.
Increased Land Value as New Highways Transform Rural Areas
For landowners in Haryana and Punjab, the construction of these new highways promises an exciting future. As traffic flows shift to these new routes, areas adjacent to the highways are likely to see a surge in real estate value. Towns and villages that were once bypassed or isolated will now have direct access to major urban centres, making them more attractive for businesses, real estate developers, and homebuyers.
The Panipat to Dabwali Highway, in particular, will pass through multiple towns, including Dabwali, Kalanwali, Rori, Sardulgarh, Hanspur, Ratia, Bhuna, and several others. The four-lane road will facilitate smoother traffic and improve access to these communities. Currently, many of these towns are constrained by narrow roads, but the widening of national highways will make them much more navigable, paving the way for increased commercial and residential activity.
Detailed Planning Underway for Project Execution
Following the green light from the central government, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will now begin work on a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these highways. This report will outline the technical and financial aspects of the construction process. Once the DPR is finalised, tenders will be issued, and work will begin on the ground. The timeline for completion of these highways is not yet finalised, but once operational, they are expected to significantly improve the region’s infrastructure and overall quality of life.
These highways are more than just roads – they represent a transformative opportunity for the people of Haryana and Punjab. From reducing travel times to enhancing trade and boosting land values, the impact of these new highways will be felt across the region. As construction progresses, the economic and social benefits will become increasingly evident, making it an exciting time for landowners and residents alike in these states.
