12-year-old arrested after allegedly threatening victim with knife; firearm recovered after fleeing suspects crashed in Mattapan

A 12-year-old was arrested for assault Sunday after he and a group of kids allegedly threatened a victim with a knife, Boston Police reported Monday.

After 6 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to reports of a person with a knife around Washington Street and Chilcott Street in Roxbury, BPD said. The report described five juveniles who allegedly threatened a victim with a knife in the area.

At the scene, officers canvassed the area and found a group matching the description near Montebello Street and Haverford Street, Boston Police said. The cops stated they frisked a subject and found a knife on him.

The 12-year-old male was arrested and charged with delinquent to wit and assault with a dangerous weapon. BPD didn’t report any charges against the other four.

The boy is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.

Also on Sunday, Boston Police reported a firearm was recovered after suspects fled a traffic stop and crashed their vehicle in Mattapan.

The suspects were first spotted by police “abruptly and improperly” pulling over into a no parking zone without turn signals in a Infiniti sedan on Talbot Ave in the early hours Sunday, BPD reported.

Officers said they pulled the car over to conduct a traffic stop and saw three men inside on closer inspection.

The cops “encountered several obstacles” quickly, police said, including a passenger exiting the vehicle to block and yell at them. The officers approached the vehicle and began to speak to the driver, but the driver became “confrontational.”

The operators attempted to drive off and flee with the officers upper body inside of the car, BPD said. The officer reportedly got out quickly and was not injured.

The two remaining passengers in the car did not make it far before crashing the vehicle into another parked car, officers said. The cops said they chased the pair but lost a visual on the suspects.

Around 2:30 a.m., police said they were canvassing the area for the suspects when they found a firearm in the last area the suspects were seen.

The gun was a Smith & Wesson 9 Compact with one 9mm round in the chamber and seven 9mm rounds in the magazine, BPD reported.
