My heart is rooted in traditional Cantonese cuisine, made by Mum. My food horizon expanded while studying in the UK, where I increased my appreciation for French and Italian food and wine.
A favourite is Aroma Wine Bistro (Shop 206-210, Lee Garden Three, 1 Sunning Rd, Causeway Bay. Tel: 9591 6838). It is a must-go place if you are a wine lover.
Comptoir (42 Forbes Street, Kennedy Town. Tel: 2453 9873) is a Mediterranean tapas bar and wine cellar with a laid-back environment and friendly staff. It is a perfect spot to spend a lazy weekend afternoon.
It is also reasonably priced for the quality. The signature beef tartare, and crab and avocado rolls, are my favourites.
The slow-cooked chashu (slow-braised pork belly) is so tender and delicious.
For visitors, I would recommend Sing Kee Seafood Restaurant (33-39 Sai Kung Tai Street, Sai Kung. Tel: 2791 9887), which is on the waterfront and has an excellent sea view.
For dinner, Mott 32 (Basement, Standard Chartered Bank Building, 4-4a Des Voeux Road, Central. Tel: 2885 8688) is a contemporary Chinese restaurant that crafts sophisticated yet authentic dishes with a modern twist.
The signature applewood-smoked Peking duck, barbecue prime Iberico pork and creative dim sum dishes are my favourites.
For celebrations, Restaurant Petrus (Level 56, Island Shangri-La Hong Kong, Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Admiralty. Tel: 2820 8590) will not disappoint. It has one Michelin star and is on the Best Champagne List in Hong Kong.
You will find a refreshing interpretation of contemporary French cuisine with an extensive wine collection, complemented with elegant decor and a panoramic view of Hong Kong.
You will find some interesting wine flights and even magnum-size bottles by the glass pouring tableside. It is great for special occasions.
Finally, overseas, The Regency Restaurant (131 Kings Road, Brighton and Hove, England. Tel: +44 1273 325014) is a popular seafood restaurant in Brighton, England. It offers locally caught fresh seafood and spectacular views of Brighton Pier and the English Channel. It is a perfect spot to spend an afternoon with a bottle of champagne and fresh seafood.
This restaurant brings back good memories of my last visit ages ago with my parents while celebrating my graduation. The sunset on the beach was mesmerising and will forever be preserved in my memory.
