NEWTOWN — A person’s remains found in the woods near Edmond Road in October have been positively identified as a Southbury woman in her 70s, Newtown police said Friday.
Police identified her as 73-year-old Janet Connor. Her death is not believed to be suspicious, Newtown police said in a news release.
“Connor’s last known residence was in Southbury but she is believed to have been transient at the time of her death. There is no reason to believe that there were any suspicious circumstances involved in her death,” the news release said.
“We offer our sincere condolences to Mrs. Connor’s family,” the release went on to say.

A caller alerted Newtown police to the human remains identified as Connor’s around 2:38 p.m. Oct. 13 last year, police said previously. Police responded and confirmed the “presence of human remains,” the department said.
Police said at the time that there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances or foul play involved in Connor’s death.
Ten days after her remains were located, the case was uploaded into the NamUs database, an online clearinghouse for missing, unclaimed and unidentified person cases.
The report in the database said the remains were “not recognizable” and “near complete or complete skeleton.” But investigators estimated she would have been between 5 feet and 5 feet 6 inches tall.

The report also listed several items of clothing and jewelry found on the body.
Those items included a Lands End jacket, a size XL Lands End long-sleeved shirt, a size XL Pure Jill sweater, a Pandora bracelet, a necklace “with a cross containing clear stones” and a pair of yellow metal hoop earrings measuring about three-eighths of an inch or 10mm in diameter, according to the NamUs report.
