Annapoorani, starring Nayanthara, received attention and appreciation for its compelling storyline and Nayanthara’s powerful performance. However, controversy quickly ensued, leading to the initiation of a legal case against the film, alleging the presence of anti-Hindu elements or scenes.

The legal complaint targeted not only Nayanthara but also involved other key figures associated with the movie, including actor Jai, producer duo Jatin Sethi and R Ravindran, Punit Goenka, Zee Studios Chief Business Officer Shariq Patel, and the head of Netflix India, Monika Shergill. The allegations have left fans shocked and bewildered, as they express their disbelief over a legal case being filed against Nayanthara and Netflix on charges of engaging in anti-Hindu activities.

Fir the unversed, in the film, Nayanthara is depicted as a daughter of Hindu priest, who believe eating or touching non-vegetarian food is a sin. However, Annapoorani believes in the art of cooking and aspires to be a renowned chef one day. When she joins a culinary school to improve her skills, she is forced to encounter situations where she has to not only touch meat but also learn the skill of making non-vegetarian food.

Furthermore, the film also sees her falling in love with one of her colleagues and batchmate, Farhan. In one of the scenes, Farhan is seen discussing Ramayana and making claims that Ram, Sita, and Laxman consumed meat during their exile which has not gone down well with this complainant. In another scene, it is being shown that Nayanthara is wearing black cloth over her head and reading the namaz because she was advised by one of her Muslim friends, that she often follows this ritual before starting to make ‘biryani’. Both these scenes seem to have caused some stir and it has led a Mumbai-based resident to file a complaint against the movie at the LT Marg police station in the city.

Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food, which released on Netflix earlier this week, is directed by Nilesh Krishnaa and also features Sathyaraj, Karthik Kumar, KS Ravikumar, Redin Kingsley, among others in key roles.
