Mohammed Al-Fayed’s family urged to sell Highlands estate amid rape allegations

THE family of Mohammed Al-Fayed have been urged to sell his Highlands home amid a string of shocking allegations against the late shamed Harrods boss.

Green party Councillor Chris Ballance also reckons the scandal-hit mogul should be stripped of his Freedom of the Highlands award which he was honoured with by the local tourist board in 2002.

Mr Ballance is urging the Al-Fayed family to sell his Balnagown Estate near Invergordon, claiming he “did nothing” to improve the area.

He said: “Apart from some improvements to a local village hall, he did nothing to help the Highlands.

“I have no idea why anyone thought he might deserve an award in the first place.”

Fayed purchased estate in Invergordon in 1972.

The impressive grounds is famed for its unique pink castle and is still used by Fayed’s wife Heini Wathen and their four kids Jasmine, Camilla, Karim and Omar.

The famous castle is owned by a firm called Bocardo Societe Anonyme, whose owner is Ocarina Trustee AG, a company based in Liechtenstein which is known to be a tax haven.

Mr Ballance’s comments come after a shocking tell-all documentary saw dozens of women tell of brutal sex assaults and rapes at the hands of the Harrods boss while they worked for him.

Many women said they were made to undergo sexual health checks while working at the luxury London-based store, the results of which were handed to Al-Fayed before he would attack them.

Fayed’s youngest victims to come forward were just 15 and 16 at the time.

Mr Ballance says his family should sell the multi-million pound estate to give compensation to his victims.

He said: “Fayed was another absentee landlord of a large estate. He just helicoptered in once a year. I wholeheartedly support calls for him to be stripped of it posthumously.

“If the estate is still owned by the family, they should now sell it to provide some compensation for the numerous victims.”

But VisitScotland bosses say they are unable to strip him of the 2002 award.

A spokeswoman told the Daily Record: “We understand the Freedom of the Scottish Highlands was issued as a one-off symbolic award by the Highlands of Scotland Tourist Board.”

Meanwhile Police Scotland say they have completed an investigation following a complaint of a “non-recent sexual assault’ by Fayed at the Scots estate but said: “Should new information be obtained or reported to police, further inquiries will be carried out.”
