The UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) and the IIT-JEE are two of the the toughest exams in the country, with hundreds of thousands of aspirants taking the tests each year in order to fulfill their dream of becoming an IAS, IFS, or IPS officer, or to secure an admission into a prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

However, only a tiny fraction of aspirants emerge victorious in the UPSC, and a tinier group of individuals are among the few who crack both IIT-JEE and UPSC, showcasing their academic prowess and intellect. One such person is our today’s UPSC success story subject, Gaurav Kaushal, who cracked the IIT-JEE and SSC CGL exams, apart from clearing the UPSC CSE and becoming an IAS officer.

Who is Gaurav Kaushal?

Born and raised in Haryana, Gaurav Kaushal completed his early education in Panchkula and later cracked the IIT-JEE exam to join IIT Delhi. However, Gaurav soon dropped out of IIT Delhi and opted to pursue a Bachelors degree in Computer Science at BITS Pilani.

After earning his B.Tech degree from the Engineering College of Punjab, Gaurav Kausal started preparing for the Union Public Service Commission CSE and cracked the exam in his very first attempt in 2012, securing an impressive All-India Rank (AIR) of 38. Kaushal was posted with the Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES), where he held administrative responsibilities within the Cantonment Board and oversaw military lands.

However, after serving for 12 years as an IAS officer, Gaurav’s desire to explore other options remained unsatiated and he decided to quit his IAS post, and started working as a consultant for UPSC aspirants, who dream of clearing the tough exam.
