Jasvir Singh, an IPS officer from the 1992 batch, hails from Hoshiarpur, Punjab. He is from the 1992 batch of IPS officers. Initially, he pursued Civil Engineering, later preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Exam. In 1991, he cleared the exam and was selected for the IPS, joining the Uttar Pradesh Police on September 5, 1993.
Jasvir Singh gained significant attention during his tenure as the Superintendent of Police in Pratapgarh. In 1997, under the BSP government led by Chief Minister Mayawati, he took strong action against many influential figures, including Raghuraj Pratap Singh, commonly known as Raja Bhaiya, who was arrested under his leadership. Indeed, it was Jasvir Singh, the then SP, who arrested Raja Bhaiya. According to the News18 Hindi report, Mayawati had selected him for this important task due to his integrity and honesty. However, after the BSP government lost power, Singh faced frequent transfers, and reportedly there were claims that his promotion was intentionally delayed.
Once again, IPS officer Jasvir Singh became a subject of discussion in 2002 when, as the Superintendent of Police in Maharajganj, he recommended the imposition of the National Security Act (NSA) against Yogi Adityanath. He faced various allegations during that period. Later, while serving as the ADG of Home Guards, he highlighted corruption issues, which led to his transfer to another department.
IPS officer Jasvir Singh was suspended on February 14, 2019, while holding the position of ADG of Rules and Manuals. According to the report, the government cited his unauthorized leave as the reason for the suspension. However, media reports suggest that his suspension was related to an interview in which he accused the government of paying salaries for no work. He criticized his department, stating that staff members were being paid without any meaningful tasks. When the government issued a notice asking for an explanation, he chose to go on leave.
More than five years have passed since IPS officer Jasvir Singh’s suspension, and in November 2024, the government decided to terminate his service. However, he has appealed this decision to the President.
