Marvel teased a major identity reveal surrounding Venom’s monstrous new villain Bedlam in Venom #9.
Releasing in July, Venom #9 comes from writer Al Ewing, artist Bryan Hitch, inker Andrew Currie and colorist Alex Sinclair. Marvel announced that the issue will reveal the identity behind the mysterious Bedlam, a new villain introduced in Venom #1 who has served as a major antagonist to both Eddie Brock and his son, Dylan. Marvel also released a variant cover for Venom #10, which also comes from Ewing, Hitch, Currie and Sinclair. The “classified version” of the cover, created by Paulo Siqueira and Rachelle Rosenberg, asks readers, “Who is Bedlam?” while the symbiotic foe bares his teeth and claws.
Bedlam is a murderous symbiote who has been seen in both the Garden of Time and on Earth-616 in Ewing and Ram V’s Venom run. While Eddie Brock is currently trapped within the Garden of Time after he gets caught in an explosion in Venom #1, Dylan has since become a host for the Venom symbiote. Venom and Bedlam faced one another in an epic duel in Venom #7, at which point Bedlam revealed himself to be a King in Black. Dylan and Venom’s fate was left ambiguous after Venom #7 ended with the two of them in Bedlam’s clutches, while Venom #8 follows Eddie’s journey in the Garden of Time.
The synopsis for Venom #9 promises fans more cosmic mayhem involving Eddie and the Garden in addition to the Bedlam reveal. It reads, “EDDIE BROCK, AL EWING & BRYAN HITCH UNITE FOR A TALE ACROSS TIME! Eddie Brock is still getting used to his place in the symbiote hive, and with new allies and familiar faces alike offering him advice along the way, Eddie remains as canny, wary and reckless as ever. Little does he know, his battle across the cosmos has only just begun, and KANG THE CONQUERER has a front-row seat for its first act!”
Marvel previously announced Venom #10 will mark the end of the second arc of Venom’s new era and will see “Eddie Brock’s soul pushed to the absolute limit.” The current Venom run has also seen Eddie face another new villain, Meridius, who is also a King in Black who rules over the Garden of Time. Venom #8 revealed Meridius has ties to Kang the Conquerer, as Kang says he has to “visit the little conqueror’s room” when going to meet with Meridius.
Venom #9 features cover art by Hitch and Sinclair. The issue releases July 27 from Marvel. Venom #10 also features cover art by Hitch and Sinclair and releases Aug. 31.
