Marvel Introduces an All-New Avengers 2099

The following contains major spoilers for Spider-Man 2099: Exodus #3, available now from Marvel.

Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, has joined forces with 2099’s all-new team of Avengers, and they’re already living up to the legacy of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Spider-Man 2099: Exodus #3 sees Miguel finally confront Norman Osborn, better known as the Green Goblin, and his Masters of Evil with a new team of heroes. With the help of the strangest Moon Knight of all time, Spider-Man is joined on the battlefield by half a dozen other superpowered freedom fighters, all of whom have their own reasons to take vengeance on the villains who have plagued their world.

Returning 2099 heroes John Eisenhart and Roberta Mendez, better known as the Hulk and Captain America respectively, both show up to battle the Masters of Evil who once weaponized each of them. They are joined in the fight by several new heroes of their era who also suffered at the hands of the Masters. These include Rowena Stern/Captain Marvel, as well as Zhe Li/Aero, whose loved ones lost their lives at the hands of their enemies. There is also T’Shamba, another stunning variant of the Black Panther, and MacKenzie Salgado/Wave, both of whom lost their homes to the Masters of Evil.

These new heroes now stand in the footsteps of their predecessors, all of whom were killed by the Masters during their last encounter. The team forming under Miguel’s leadership comes as the culmination of months of racing against both the Masters and time to prevent Osborn and his Illuminati-like Cabal from taking hold of the power of the Celestial Garden. Among the villains standing against the heroes of 2099 are Baron Zemo, Melter, Black Knight, Radioactive Man and the Asgardian Amora, aka Enchantress.

Miguel O’Hara made his first full appearance in the pages of 1992’s Spider-Man 2099 #1 by Peter David and Rick Leonardi. A former employee of the malevolent Alchemax International, Miguel subjected himself to an experimental gene procedure during a drug-fueled hallucinatory frenzy brought about by his villainous boss, Tyler Stone. Over the years Miguel has made a name for himself as his world’s foremost freedom fighter, as well as one of its greatest superheroes.
