Loganair urged its customers to check-in online after announcing on social media earlier today that the airline was experiencing “technical issues with luggage check-in” in Edinburgh Airport.

The airline assured flyers that their teams were working hard to resolve the problem.

A spokesperson for Loganair said: “There are currently technical issues with luggage check-in at Edinburgh Airport. The relevant team are working on a resolution and in the meantime our team is working hard to keep everyone moving as quickly as possible.

“We kindly ask if you can check in online, we highly encourage you to do so. This will help make your journey through the airport smoother and more seamless. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

It is understood that Swissport, British Airways and Easyjet were also subject to the disruption.

Easyjet confirmed that the IT issue has since been resolved with “no impact on our flying programme”.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said that airlines across the UK were dealing with the system error causing longer wait times for travellers.

Several passengers took to X (formerly Twitter) to complain of “huge waits” and “missing baggage”.

One claimed that queues were extending outside the airport, with “nothing moving”.

An irritated Swissport passenger wrote: “please, please, please…. Can someone at Edinburgh take some accountability and help me with missing baggage! Airport staff… useless. Swissport… useless. There must be somebody, somewhere… and actual person… for people to speak to!”

Another wrote: “We were held at the boarding gate due to “IT problems throughout Edinburgh Airport”, and could not start boarding until check in was closed. GH provider Swissport informed gate operator they would have to manually tag, check and load each bag.”

A third holidaymaker fumed: “Edinburgh Airport your baggage system is atrocious again. Passengers having huge wait to collect again. Welcome to Scotland. Embarrassing“.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said: “Issues with an IT system used by airlines at airports across the UK means wait times at check in are longer than we would expect.

“Our airline partners are working hard to keep passengers moving and minimise disruption, and our teams are supporting them in this.”
