What is an RPG without character customization? Some games are simple in this aspect, offering ways to change outfits, armor, etc. Others are more in-depth with various sliders for a character’s physical appearance and anything they wear or use. In Diablo IV, you can use the transmog system to change the appearance of your armor. Unlike previous games, you won’t have to work through most of the story to unlock this aspect either. We’ll show you when you can unlock it and how to use it.

How to Change Armor Appearance in Diablo IV

We all know the importance of having the right stats, armor, and weapons to get anywhere in the Diablo franchise. Otherwise, your character can promptly find themselves in danger. However, let’s set all that aside for a moment and focus on another important feature: appearance.

In Diablo IV, not only do you have plenty of options during character creation, but you can also change the appearance of your armor later on.

You can access this option under 2 hours of playing the game. For those of you who have played previous Diablo titles, you may breathe a sigh of relief at knowing you don’t have to wait until nearly the end of the game to have fun with the armor appearance.

In fact, your first chance at changing up your armor comes when you reach the first major city: Kyovashad. It is the same city in which you will first get the chance to use your Stash Chest. Actually, you will find both the Stash Chest and the Wardrobe at the same time.

It is in this Wardrobe located up a flight of stairs in a bedroom inside of an inn that you can change the armor appearance in Diablo IV. To get to the building, start at the Waypoint in Kyovashad. From there, head north toward the Wardrobe icon on the map to find the inn.

When you find the Wardrobe, interact with it, and you will immediately see the variants that you have for armor. Just select which armor piece you want to change and go from there.

As this is still early in the game, it’s expected that you won’t have that many variants to play around with. Still, you know what to look for in any other city you head to later on. Find the Wardrobe, and you can use it to change the appearance of your Diablo IV armor as you wish. You can change by each individual piece too, such as Helm, Boots, Pants, Gloves, and Chest.

There are different styles and pigments to choose from, letting you fully adapt your character to suit your personal preferences. Head to a Blacksmith to salvage equipment and unlock said equipment’s appearance for the Wardrobe.

Diablo IV releases on June 6, 2023, for PC, PS5 and PS4, and Xbox One and Series. For now, you can enjoy the beta version of the game.
