Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Drive With Snow On Your Roof

A semi truck driver in Kansas caught the horrifying moment a block of frozen snow smashed through their windshield on Thursday. The driver was plowing along Highway 50 near Cedar Point when a huge block of frozen snow flew off the roof of a passenger car and hit the front of their truck, reports Fox Weather.

The ice smashed the window of the semi truck on the passenger side and left the driver with minor injuries, as Fox Weather reports:

The truck was heading along Highway 50 near Cedar Point when the block of ice flew off a passing car and smashed right into the windshield, sending glass everywhere, according to the Chase County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver was able to safely get his truck to a stop and suffered some cuts from glass, officials said.

“Folks, we can all do a little better at cleaning the snow and ice off of our vehicles before traveling,” the sheriff’s office said. “The driver of this semi did an incredible job of safely bringing the unit to a stop. Although he had minor cuts from glass and refused transport to the hospital, it could have been so much worse.”

Footage of the incident was shared across social media late last week, and it makes for quite the shocking site. In the dashcam video, which you can see below, the huge chunk of snow flies off a black passenger car in the opposite lane. It’s tricky to make out at first, due to the grey conditions around, but as it flies through the air it becomes much more apparent.

As it hits the front of the semi truck, the ice smashes the windshield, which reportedly threw shards of glass into the cabin. Images of the aftermath also show a gaping hole in the windshield on the semi.

Snowfall in the area amounted to between two and four inches in the days leading up to the incident, added local news outlet WSAZ. A winter storm swept through the region, which led local law enforcement to call on drivers in the area to remain vigilant in the icy conditions.
