Best known for her roles in television shows like Swaragini and Devanshi, Helly Shah, who has been to Cannes and back, made her big OTT debut with Gullak Season 4. While the show has always revolved around the Mishra family, the introduction of Helly as Preeti has definitely stirred up some relationships and family dynamics. Expressing her gratitude towards bagging the show in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Helly Shah opened up about the amazing response coming her way.
EXCLUSIVE: Helly Shah expresses her gratitude as she debuts with Gullak on OTT; says, “It’s a great thing that it’s coming across as like my debut”
Helly Shah revealed that even though she has shot for other projects, she is thrilled to have Gullak release as her debut. “It’s been great honestly. I mean, ever since I’ve shot for it, I’ve been very, very excited for the show to release. And I mean, like, we all know everybody has loved the first three seasons. And there’s always this anticipation for the next season, ‘ki kya hoga’ and something which is so relatable and relevant. I mean, it’s a great thing that it’s coming across as like my debut or on the web, because those projects haven’t released, and Gullak is the first project to get released, and I’m so happy,” she told Bollywood Hungama.
Further explaining about how she feels whenever her new project is released, she stated, “I’m always excited for every project release. You want people to like the project, give all the love, but at the same time, there’s always that little bit of nervousness attached to it but in a very good way. I think it doesn’t matter if it’s a debut or it’s not a debut because you’ve worked hard for it, and obviously, you want people to appreciate and like it”.
In the same interaction, Helly also mentioned how people reacted when she surprised her audience by being a part of the show which generally revolves around the Mishra family. “People weren’t expecting any other character other than the main Mishra family, right? Because it’s always been like that. And then I started getting messages from people where generally, baat-baat mein they say that I saw you in Gullak. Some of them even told me that it’s their favorite show, and they are so happy to see me. So, I mean, like, people were surprised for sure, but at the same time, I have received, like, a lot of love for that.”
Recalling the moment when she bagged the show, Helly shared, “I was just called for the audition and main to aise hi gayi thi. Saara maine dekha tha ki TVF hai, Gullak hai. Genuinely saying, I was not at all expecting any call back or anything. Don’t ask me why. But you know, sometimes you audition, then in your head, you are like ‘Theek hai pata nahin’. But then, a week later, I received a message, and then a call saying that you’re shortlisted. Then, they wanted to meet me, and that’s how things kind of got finalized”.

Starring Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Harsh Mayar in main roles, the web-series traces the journey of a middle-class Mishra family. And Helly Shah made her entry as Dr. Preeti, who is a dentist, in the latest season of the show. It premiered on SONY LIV on June 7.
