Skier missing overnight in 0C freeze after vanishing alone on Scottish mountain

COPS are appealing for information after a man went missing overnight during a solo ski trip on a Scots mountain.

Sam Burns, from Aviemore, Inverness-shire, was reported missing on Friday.

The 40-year-old was last in contact with his friends at around 11.30am, when he embarked on a ski trip in the Cairngorms on his own.

His vehicle remains parked in the Cairngorm Mountain car park.

Sam is described as 5ft 10 inches in height, with short brown hair.

He is thought to have been wearing either a bright blue, or bright orange jacket and a ski helmet.

Inspector Craig Johnstone said: “We are becoming increasingly concerned for Sam’s welfare and are keen to trace him as soon as possible.

“We believe he planned to ski Y Gulley or Diagonal Gulley from the Cairngorm Plateau.

“I would appeal to anyone who was on the Cairngorm Plateau or within Loch Avon Basin on Friday 13, December, 2024 and who may have seen Sam to get in touch and to anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward as soon as possible.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 3438 of 13 December, 2024.”

In other news, earlier this month an elderly man with dementia was found after he vanished from his home.

Alexander Marshall, 75, was located after four days, with police having launched a desperate search to locate his whereabouts.

The OAP, from Novar Drive in Hyndland, Glasgow, disappeared on Wednesday 27 November.

However cops told how the man had been found on Sunday 1 December, as they thanked the public for their assistance.

During the investigation, several sightings of the pensioner were reported.

He was spotted at a shop on Argyle Street near the junction with Glassford Street.

Following enquiries, he was also spotted on Main Street in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire.

It is understood he did not have his prescribed medication with him.
