5 food and drink events in Hong Kong this weekend July 26-28, for oysters, paella and more

The weather may be gloomy, but this weekend in Hong Kong there are food and drink happenings sure to brighten your mood while keeping you out of the elements.

There’s high-fashion high tea at Salisterra, in The Upper House hotel, cafe hopping in North Point, and a four-hands dinner at Japanese restaurant Ryota Kappou. Here are our top picks.

1. Ryota Kappou x The Celebrity Demon

For two nights only on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27, chefs Ryota Kanesawa and Cheng Kam-fu of The Demon Celebrity will partner up for a four-hands dinner at Ryota Kappou in Central.

The Chinese and Japanese fine-dining collaboration promises to be interesting, with dishes such as smoked French Challans duck, Fu’s seafood donabe clay pot, and ayu sweetfish spring rolls.

2. Olé – Nine-Course Spanish Weekend Brunch

To celebrate its 26th anniversary, Olé Spanish Restaurant is launching a nine-course Spanish weekend brunch menu, for HK$498 (US$64) per person, available until October 27.

Guests are served six starters, including Spanish Iberico ham with tomato bread and Padrón peppers with romesco sauce, before their choice of main course. There is also unlimited paella.

End the meal with either pears cooked in mulled wine with strawberry ice cream, meringue with berries compote, or churros with hot chocolate.

3. Cafe hopping in North Point

Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour Hong Kong hotel has launched a cafe-hopping campaign that encourages coffee lovers to explore some of North Point’s best cafes.

The activity is not limited to hotel guests; members of the public can pick up the Cafe Hopping in North Point stamp card from the hotel and at the four participating cafes (The Farmhouse Deli, Coffee Obsession, Lungo, and Uncle Ben Coffee).

After getting a stamp from any other of the participating cafes, participants can redeem a HK$50 voucher to use at the hotel’s Cruise restaurant and Bar. The campaign runs until September 30.

4. Weekend brunch at Casa Sophia Loren

Unlimited oysters for HK$488 per person sounds tempting on its own, but the Riviera Weekend Brunch at Casa Sophia Loren offers that and more.

There is an appetiser buffet with salads and an array of cold seafood dishes, and a selection of main courses, such as lobster spaghetti, burrata ravioli and charcoal-grilled lamb chops. Be sure to leave room for dessert.

The brunch is available on Saturdays from 12pm to 4pm, with free-flow drinks add-ons starting at HK$80.

5. Net-a-Porter afternoon tea at Salisterra

With its sweeping views of Victoria Harbour, Salisterra, in The Upper House, is the perfect place to catch up with friends and family members over tea.

Its latest Net-a-Porter afternoon tea set for two (HK$718, Friday to Sunday) features citrus-cured trout with salmon roe and orange tart; Parmesan biscuit with Tête de Moine cheese and onion marmalade; Earl Grey and strawberry mille-feuille, and; ruby peach and vanilla choux.
